Susquehanna or Nicholas Sparks? – Susquehanna #3

What a crazy week it has been! The subject to this email really has
nothing to do with anything, other than the fact that every single day
I feel like I am literally walking through the pages of a Nicholas
Sparks book. Tiny town where everyone knows everyone, and people who
have known each other since they were babies are now married.
Seriously, it’s crazy, I feel like everyone here knew who we were
before we knew them! (In fact, I know they did!) It’s so much fun

So last Monday we had a zone conference with Elder Kacher (of the
seventy), I don’t remember if I talked about it at all last week, but
it was SO good!! I loved it so much! He talked all about changing your
mindset and what we need to do to help our areas progress and what we
need to improve on to achieve the goals we have set. It was exactly
what we needed to hear! Afterwards Sisters Simmons, Brown and I all
made goals on what we can do to change our mindset of this area; and
we have seen MIRACLES this week because of it!! We had so many members
come to appointments with us last minute and when they got there they
said exactly what was needed for the people we were teaching! We had a
less active member come with us to teach J… and the member invited
J… to read Moroni 10 and she just went on to share her testimony of
how she found out for herself that the Book of Mormon was true by
reading it and praying and asking God if it is true! It was amazing
and everyone could feel the spirit so strongly! We also had an
investigator, M…, come to church and tell us that one time when
she was passing the new church building that’s still being built that
she had a strong feeling that one day she would be going to church
there. She is so sweet, and she’s just searching for the truth! I know
that she will find it here, and I’m so excited to see her progress! (:
We met with a less active member this week, J…, and he is amazing!
He truly has a desire to get his life turned around and he even told
us that he really wants to serve a mission!! We will be helping him
turn to the Lord this week and overcome the trials and temptations
that are coming to him. I’m so excited to see him change his life
around and turn towards the Lord and use the Atonement! He is so
great!! We also met with a family that we’ve been teaching! They have
a son on a mission right now, and we had a member come with us who
connected with them SO well! We decided to reteach them the
Restoration and help them find out what they do know and do believe so
far. The lesson was super great, but I knew that S…, the mom, was
still holding back on us. When we talked about Joseph Smith’s first
vision and Sister Brown finished reciting it, it was silent for at
least 45 seconds afterwards. The spirit was SO strong! I prayed that
S… would open up to us, and suddenly Sister Simmons asked if they
believed that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph
Smith. S… opened up and told us all of her concerns. The member
that was with us bore a beautiful testimony of the Book of Mormon and
Joseph Smith and afterwards the spirit was so strong that no one said
anything. I’m so grateful that the spirit was there and S… could
open up to us so we know how to better help her. I’m grateful for the
companionship of the Holy Ghost. I know that it is so essential to
teach by the Spirit because the Spirit is what testifies of truth.
That is how people will know for themselves that what they are being
taught and reading in the Book of Mormon is true. There’s really no
other way to know.

District Meeting at the Susquehanna River.

District Meeting at the Susquehanna River.

I love this gospel and I’m so grateful for it. A talk I was reading a
little while ago and then our Relief Society lesson was on it is:
Ponder the Path of Thy Feet from President Monson in the October 2014
General Conference. One part in particular that I love says,
“We need not walk by the shores of Galilee or among the Judean hills
to walk where Jesus walked. All of us can walk the path He walked
when, with His words ringing in our ears, His Spirit filling our
hearts, and His teachings guiding our lives, we choose to follow Him
as we journey through mortality. His example lights the way. Said He,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

I love this because it really doesn’t matter if you walk exactly where
Christ walked. He doesn’t intend for us to do that anyway. He wants us
to be examples and to follow His example. Wherever we are in the
world. We don’t need to go to Jerusalem to show Christ that we believe
in Him. We don’t need to be baptized in the Susquehanna river to let
Joseph Smith know that we accept him as the prophet of the
restoration. We need to show them. We show Christ our love for Him by
helping others know of Him. We help others know that the Book of
Mormon is true by inviting them to read it. We testify of truth by
living it. And when we do that Heavenly Father blesses us. He loves us
and wants to bless us! We just have to do what He has commanded of us.
I love this gospel and I love helping others know about it! I love you
all and I hope that you have an amazing week and that you invite
others to come closer to Christ, and you lead by example!

I love you to the moon and back!

Yesterday was Zone Conference (Tuesday pday) – Susquehanna #2

Hello friends and family!!

What a crazy week it’s been up in Susquehanna!!

We’ve been out talking to everyone! We have met so many amazing people and I am so grateful that I get to serve here in the tiny Susquehanna branch!! (:

We had a miracle this week!! We were out finding and had decided the night before while planning to stop by a potential investigator who lives on our street. So Tuesday afternoon we went out and knocked on their door. A man named J… answered and we got talking and we asked if there was a time we could teach him more about the gospel. He thinks for a minute and he’s all, well I have time right now. So we taught him the restoration which was so crazy because his brother and wife were making random comments that had nothing to do with what we were talking about, but the spirit was still so strong! We invited him to read from the Book of Mormon and to pray and ask God if it was true. He was more than willing to accept this and we also invited him to church. He was hesitant about this but told us that he might come. Well, Sunday rolls around and none of the investigators that had told us they were coming came to church. But about halfway through sacrament meeting I see J… walk in!! He waves at us and sits down in the back. After sacrament meeting everyone in the branch was introducing themselves to him and we asked if he was going to stay for Sunday School. His response: “Well, I’m here aren’t I?” Our branch mission leader taught Sunday School and did an AMAZING job!! J… was fully participating and asking so many questions it was so great! After that we went back to the chapel where we have Priesthood and Relief Society (they just partition off a little section for Priesthood so it’s super distracting because if you’re not focused you just get a little bit of both meetings the whole time.) So I must admit I heard more of Priesthood than I did of Relief Society. J… volunteered to read a story that had to do with the lesson and afterwards he paused for a minute then said, “Wow. That is exactly what I needed to hear.” The men then all participated in helping him understand that God is his loving Heavenly Father, and He wants what’s best for him and it’s not a coincidence that we met him. It was just so great and I’m so grateful that we were an answer to his prayers, after that J… stated that he is going to really start reading the Book of Mormon. I already love him so much and I’m so grateful that I got to meet him! I pray that he will continue to progress and desire to learn more about the gospel!!

I am running out of time, but I just want you all to know that I love you and I’m so proud of each of you!! Find ways to come closer to Christ this week!!

I love you to the moon and back!!

Hello friends and family!!!!! Wow!!! What a CRAZY week!!! I have like
zero time to email so I apologize in advance.. But…

I LOVE SUSQUEHANNA!!!! This place is so wonderful!!! And I have the
BEST companions!! I’m in a trio with Sister Simmons (my previous
sister training leader), and Sister Brown (fresh from the mtc!!)
Sister Simmons and I are training Sister Brown and it is CRAZY!! This
area just barely had Elders serving here so we don’t know anyone since
we’re all new to the area! We’re just trying to figure things out!! We
are serving in the tiniest branch!! Our church building for the next
few months is the tiniest little house on the prairie church building,
it’s crazy!!! We got here on Wednesday and had dinner with the branch
mission leader who is AMAZING!!! He filled us in on all of the
investigators and people being taught! It was so great!!!

A few days later (or maybe the next day, I can’t remember!!) we met
with the D… family! They have a son who joined the church two
years ago and has now been on his mission for almost a year!! WOW!!
They are investigating the church, but are nervous to make the next
step and commit to something so big like baptism, but we are going to
work with them on that! Their son told them not to wait for him to
come home for them to join the church which I admire him for saying
that! They are so awesome!!

We’ve just been trying to meet everyone (literally everyone because
it’s such a small town), and invite them all to learn about the
gospel!! We have so much potential in this area and I just love it

In September the Aaronic Priesthood Restoration Site will be dedicated
and I am SO excited for it!! Sister Brown is going to be serving in
the visitors center along with a few other sister missionaries who
will be coming in within the next few transfers!! It’s all just
madness and we don’t even know what’s going to be going on and I am so
excited for what’s coming up!! I am just praying that I will be able
to serve in this area for a long time!! Ah I just love it so much!!

Well I’m sorry this is so short, but I love you all to the moon and back!!

trioI love getting pics from members in the PPM!!! A sweet sister in Susquehanna contacted me and let me know a little about what was going on. She sent a picture of Sister Gomm and her new companions. One I recognize as one of her Sister Training Leaders from her last area. Can’t wait to hear all about Susquehanna.

Downingtown #18 – Goodbye d-town… :(

Hello friends and family!! What a crazy week it has been!

This week we went to a less active members house and met her and her
boyfriend who is not a member. They are awesome!! So we set up a time
to meet with them like two days later and went back and taught the
restoration. Halfway through the lesson C… (the one who’s not a
member), says, “Yeah, I just really want you to start coming over here
because I want to learn more about the church so I can become a
member.” Yay for C…!!

Another thing that happened this week was we’ve been trying to contact
this referral from the Elders in our ward and every time we tried she
wasn’t home! So we were going to be up in her area on Sunday and
decided to stop by in the evening and she was outside!! So we go over
and talk to her and she’s all, “Yeah, I would love to meet with you
and I’ll definitely come to church next Sunday!!” Yay! I’m so excited
for her!

We’ve still been working with a lot of less active members, things are
going well!!

On Friday we had transfer calls… I will be leaving d-town 😦 I’m SO
sad to leave here, but I am looking forward to what Heavenly Father
has in store for me and my next area and companion!! Something that my
district leader said that I agree 100% with was: “Everyone knows that
it’s hard to leave behind your family to go on a mission, but what
they don’t tell you is how hard it is when you keep doing it
throughout your mission every time you go to a new area.” I am
seriously so sad to leave this area, everyone here is like family, and
I am already looking forward to the day that I can come back and visit
loved ones in Downingtown! (:

I still have to finish packing so sorry this isn’t a long email! But I
want you all to know that I know that this church is true, that this
is the way to return to live with our Father in Heaven. And we are not
done after baptism, living what we believe for the rest of our lives
is just as important! Heavenly Father is just waiting to bless us, He
gives us those blessings when we live the gospel and follow the
example of Christ. Following the gospel of Jesus Christ will make your
life so much easier, I promise. (:

I hope you all have a wonderful week! And I love you to the moon and back!!

Downingtown #17

Hello friends and family! I’m sorry this is going to be short, I don’t
have a lot of time, and I’m on the train back from Philly, and we’re
not going back to our apartment until tonight, so who knows when this
will actually send!

First of all, congrats to everyone who graduated high school and for
everyone receiving their mission calls!! Especially Geoff Campbell!!!

What a crazy week. We had SO many of our appointments fall through, it
was soo sad!! One highlight though, was we went to the cemetery with
N… to visit his mother’s grave. We talked about the plan of
salvation and temple work. He had someone do baptisms for his mother
so we talked about what that meant for her. It was such a great
experience and I really felt like I could feel his mother’s presence
and that she was letting us know that she had accepted the baptism
ordinance that had been done in her behalf. It’s such a humbling
experience to know about Heavenly Father’s plan for each of us. I’m so
grateful for a loving Heavenly Father and the fact that he has given
us a way to return to live with him again.

I feel like I can never remember what happened during the week once I
sit down to write about it…. We just did a lot of finding and had so
many appointments fall through. Oh! On Friday we had a member, E…,
come out teaching with us, two of the three appointments she was
coming to fell through, but she ended up driving us around all day and
it was so much fun! I love her, and she’s going to byu in the fall!!
I’m so excited for her! She came to our dinner appointment with N…
with us and N… just went on and on about how excited he is to go to
Utah in a couple of weeks!! I’m so excited for him!! He also keeps
telling me it’s about time I leave to go to a new area and he’s so
excited for me to finally leave! Haha how rude. But yet he still tries
to find us and sit by us every Sunday at church… (: oh man, if I get
transferred I will miss him SO much!!!!! Speaking of which, transfer
calls are this Friday!! I don’t want to leave d-town, but I know
that Heavenly Father has great things in store for me and this area,
no matter what happens!! (:

I just love being a missionary and I am eternally grateful for this
time that I have to serve the Lord!! I hope you all have a great

I love you to the moon and back!!
