Cloud 9 – Bethlehem #18

Wow. SO much has happened the past week and a half!! I LOVE being a
missionary! I feel like I’m on cloud 9 from all the miracles and
experiences we’ve been having! Let’s see if I can even remember
everything…

We did so much finding, testifying, planning, laughing, and crying
(from laughter) this past week! We saw a bunch of less active members
at the beginning of last week. So many tender mercies from the Lord of
us getting to testify of Christ to these people. On Wednesday morning
of last week the assistants called us and asked if we wanted a mini
missionary!! I’m pretty sure I started screaming because I was so
excited!! That night our mini missionary, Sister Raphael, showed up at
our apartment! She’s a senior in high school and working on her
mission papers right now! Can you say miracles??? I want a mini
missionary all the time! On Thursday after district meeting we went to
contact a referral we had been given from the Spanish Elders. We show
up and these two girls let us right in! We started talking about the
church and gave them both copies of the Book of Mormon and they are
both super excited to read it and they both accepted the invitation to
be baptized on May 22!! Whoo!!!!! We set up a ton of appointments and
talked to SO many people!

We had a couple of super spiritual dinner appointments and lessons,
and found a ton of new people to teach!! The women’s general broadcast
was so good (obviously), and we had a lesson with this family that
speaks mostly Arabic! On Easter we had a great church service and
three of our investigators were there! Two of which were from the
family of people who speak Arabic! Sunday school was an amazing lesson
about the Atonement of Jesus Christ. After church we were sitting in
the foyer writing an explanation to an object lesson for the ysa
bishop when the Whitehall ward got out of sacrament meeting, and out
walks our investigator, D…! WHOOT! She was all, “I couldn’t come
earlier, but I just walked in the building and thought this is where I
should have gone.” She is the cutest!

On Monday we had an amazing ten minute lesson with our new
investigator, M…. He is searching for truth and really wants to
meet with us, and we are seeing him again tomorrow! Later that day we
had a lesson with this super cute family! We had tracted into them and
they wanted us to come back! I basically taught the kids while Sister
Brunsdale taught the parents, it was crazy! Everyone was trying to ask
questions at once, but they are so amazing! They don’t speak very much
English though so we referred them to the Spanish Elders, I can’t wait
to see where they go:) on Monday evening after our dinner appointment
we had a lesson with D…. Wow. She is so cool! We taught the gospel
of Jesus Christ and she really wants to come closer to her Savior.
While teaching about repentance she said, “Wow, maybe that’s why I
still feel guilty after I repent, I need to remember the Savior in all
that I do!” She’s so cool. At the end of the lesson we invited her to
be baptized and she was all, “Yeah, I’ve actually been thinking about
it.” She now has a baptismal date for May 15! Wow. So many miracles
are happening in Bethlehem, I love it!!

We’ve found a couple more people to teach so far this week, and lots
of big plans for this weekend! Yesterday we had a lesson with a cute
little girl named M…. She wants to go to church and come closer
to God. We found her from tracting and her mom actually invited us to
come back to talk to her. It was cool to see her and her mom learn
truths! We taught M… who Jesus Christ is, what the scriptures
are, and how to pray. She said one of the most sincere prayers at the
end, it was so sweet!

Today we got to go to the Manhattan temple to do baptisms for the dead
with Brother H…! (Hence why I am emailing today). Wow. That was
such a wonderful experience! The temple is so amazing and I’m so
grateful that we have the authority to give our ancestors the
opportunity to accept the gospel. The Spirit in the temple was so
strong! Afterwards Brother H… said, “I feel so light and
rejuvenated.” I love the temple.

Wow, what a crazy past couple of weeks! I’m so excited for general
conference this weekend! I was thinking about the hymn We Thank Thee O
God For a Prophet and how the saints at the time of the restoration
must have been SO grateful for Joseph Smith. Then I thought about me
today. I remember a few years ago when we went on trek for youth
conference and I had thought to myself, ‘I’m so grateful for a
prophet, I will always follow him.’ Then reflecting on what I’ve done
since then. Times when I wasn’t as grateful that we have a prophet,
and times when I took that for granted. But now, I hope that I am just
as excited to have a prophet and to sing the words to a beautiful hymn
and let my Father in Heaven know how grateful I am for our beloved
Prophet today, President Thomas S. Monson.

I love this gospel, I know it’s true, and I’m so grateful I get to
share it with others!

I love you to the moon and back!

Week of Miracles – Bethlehem #17

Hello friends and family!

This week we had so many miracles!

Last Monday the woman we had a dinner appointment with called us and
asked us if we could come an hour earlier than we had originally
planned. It basically threw off the rest of our day’s schedule, but in
reality, it was just making one thing after another possible! We went
to our dinner appointment and afterwards we had just planned on going
finding in Downtown Bethlehem. So we park our car and go to a former
investigators house.. No luck.. We try the next few houses down.. No
luck. This whole time I kept think about a referral we had received
from the ysa elders and I felt like we needed to go meet her. Only
problem, it would be using a lot of miles to go see her. So Sister
Brunsdale and I thought about it and prayed and asked Heavenly Father
what He thought we should do and we both felt like we needed to go see
this referral. So we headed over and went straight to the house once
we got there. A man answered the door and before we even had a chance
to say hello he said, “Really. Not tonight.” And slammed the door.
Confused, I wondered why we needed to come all this way to have a door
slammed in our face. That could’ve happened in downtown Bethlehem and
we wouldn’t have had to use so many miles! We turned around to walk
down the porch and we realized we were right across the street from a
potential investigator’s house, D…. So we go and knock on her door
and she’s all, “Wow! I just got home like five minutes ago! Come in!”
So we went in and taught the entire restoration and she really wants
to read the Book of Mormon and we are seeing her again tonight! It’s
crazy how the Lord has such perfect timing!

On Tuesday we had zone training with President and Sister Anderson and
the Assistants. It was SO good! The best part was when President and
Sister Anderson role played together:) in one of the role plays I was
with Elders Weisler and Hunter (both of them started their missions in
Susquehanna! Whoot!) it was one of the best role plays I’ve ever been
a part of! I received so much revelation on how we can help the people
we’re teaching! Right after that meeting we had a meeting with the
bishop to discuss people he wants us to focus on. Wow. This ward is
awesome! They’re so good at helping us in our missionary work! After
that we went on exchanges with south side! I went to south side with
Sister Jensen. Wednesday I was with Sister Jensen all day until the
evening then when I went back to north side Sister Brunsdale told me
that our appointment for that evening had cancelled. So we went out
finding instead! We tried to see this couple who had come to church a
few weeks ago, but they weren’t home. We went to see a less active
family and set up an appointment with them! Then we shared the Easter
video with SO many people! It was awesome! We even have a few return
appointments this week with some of those people! After an hour or so
we decided to go to a different area. Before we left we kept feeling
like we needed to go see the couple again. So we tried again and they
were home and let us right in! We had a lesson with them and they told
us that they are looking for a church to raise their family in, and
they are very interested in the Book of Mormon!! They have a copy, but
hadn’t started reading it yet, but we are going to start teaching them
the lessons!! Whoot!! I’m so excited!!!!!!

On Thursday we had a lesson with a cute woman from Egypt! She loves
learning about Jesus and really wants to read the Book of Mormon! So
awesome!! She also wants to come to church this upcoming Sunday! On
Saturday we did family history for Brother H… so that he can go
to the temple to do baptisms!! We found TONS of names for him to
take!! The Spirit of Elijah was SO strong, it was so cool.

We saw so many miracles this week. I know now more than ever that
there are angels looking out for us. I know I keep talking about this,
but every single week I am reminded of this again, and again. I think
every week they are working harder and harder to help us. Satan is so
tempting. If you give him the power, he is very powerful. But isn’t
that one thing we can remember, Satan only has power if you give it to
him. If you don’t, he has no power over you. One of the amazing things
about the Aaronic Priesthood is the keys to the ministering of angels.
They are helping each of us when we are righteous. I know they have
helped Sister Brunsdale and I SO much this week! We couldn’t have done
it without them. I’m so grateful for the gospel and for being a
missionary and getting to testify to others!

I love you to the moon and back!

Love,
Sister Gomm

Miracles and Blessings and Answers to Prayers – Sister Necklaces

Message to Sister Gomm from her sister, Ally:

Okay now I want to tell you about an experience I had today. You know how we have matching necklaces? Well I went to the Temple on Tuesday with Brooky and some of my other friends. I passed by the MTC and couldn’t help but wonder what you were doing in there. The Temple was SO PACKED! We had to wait a good 30-40 minutes before we could get our clothes. Then all of the benches were full of people who were waiting to do just Baptisms for the Dead. We had to sit in the extra, extra waiting room. I’m getting beside the point, so Me and Brooky had to share a locker and I took off my necklace because I didn’t want it to get wet. Then we went and did Baptisms, Taylor’s mom gave us some of their family names, then we went in for confirmations, got dressed, Taylor’s parents took us out for ice cream and then we went home. We left the house at 6:15 and got back home at 11 o’clock. I didn’t realize till about an hour before I went to mutual, which was at 6:30 on Wednesday, that the necklace you gave me wasn’t on me and I didn’t remember grabbing it from the locker. I remembered where it was and everything, but I never grabbed it before we left. Of course, knowing me, I cried, no surprise there. So right after school today mom and dad took me to the temple and I had to wait while mom checked the lost and found, because it was back behind the doors that you need to be endowed to enter. I was sitting out there and I loved to see the happy faces of all the Older Women that passed by me giving me big smiles as they were walking in and out of the temple. After maybe 5 minutes, mom walked out of the doors holding that golden necklace. I was so thankful and I gave mom a hug then we went back to the car. Dad was waiting outside by the curb for us. When I told him we found it, he said to mom, “You never should of found it.” Then he just smiled at me and said, ” but how could you not find it?” I could feel the spirit so strong as we drove away. When mom was explaining what it was like back there she was saying that there were so many other pieces of jewelry piled into containers and they were separated in baggies and marked by what day they were found. There was another lady helping her look through everything and the lady was actually the one to find it. Having this simple thing happen to me really showed me how much the Lord helps us. I am so very grateful for the Lord’s hand to be helping me in every aspect of my life.
