Time Needs to Slow Down!

Hello friends and family!

I swear the weeks keep going by faster and faster! This week we had
zone conference! There’s something special about having a mission
president and his wife direct and guide you. It was so bitter sweet to
have our last zone conference with President and Sister Anderson. I
love them so much!

We had so many bus tours this week, it was so fun! Some of my most
favorite memories of this place are with the youth groups who come in
here. There’s something special about those youth groups because
they’re all getting ready for a lot of change in their lives. They’re
trying to figure themselves out and they’re so humble because they are
willing to accept change! There was one in particular that had three
boys and a bunch of girls in the group. Once we got to the Smith
summer kitchen I asked them all why the priesthood was important to
them. One of the boys mentioned that he had just gotten the
Melchizedek priesthood last Sunday and he is heading to the mtc in
about three weeks. He mentioned that his stake president had told them
that the priesthood they were getting was the same priesthood that
Christ used to create the earth. I pointed out that they will never
receive any more priesthood than what they have now. Yes, there will
be more keys and different responsibilities, but it’s the same
authority that Christ has. We went into a conversation about the
priesthood that I didn’t even know I was capable of having. My
understanding of the priesthood has grown immensely. I then told all
of the girls some of the roles that they have with the priesthood as
well, in hopes that they can understand the priesthood more and how it
affects them. I’m so grateful that I have learned so much about the
priesthood to not only benefit others, but myself as well. I know the
Lord is helping me to understand the priesthood and the gospel so that
I can explain it simply to others.

One of the highlights of this week was on Friday night we got to sing
the national anthem at the races that happen every Friday! It was SO
fun! I got to see so many of the people that I taught last summer and
fall because basically everyone in Susquehanna goes to the races!

“at the races”

Something that keeps coming up in different trainings and meetings
that we’ve been having recently is something I think is very
important. Oftentimes we make lists, specifically “to do” lists. To do
lists are great and often much needed, but for us as children of God,
how much more important is it for us to have “to become” lists. I made
a list of qualities the person that I want to become has and then
broke it down to a long term and short term like weekly and monthly
ways I am going to achieve who I want to become. It’s been really cool
to put those things into perspective and see who I think the Lord
wants me to be, and then to make goals to achieve that. It’s been a
great learning experience for me and I’m glad I’ve done it!

I don’t know why I got so lucky to be a missionary here and at this
time. There really is no greater work for me to do right now than
serving the Lord. I’m so grateful for Christ’s atonement and
everything I am learning right now! Here’s to another busy and very,
very eventful week!

I love you to the moon and back!

Love,
Sister Gomm

HALLELUJAH – Bethlehem #16

Hello friends and family!

Wow. What a crazy week.

We taught the word of wisdom to one of our investigators this week and
she was totally high while we were teaching. Sister Brunsdale and I
are still laughing about it. But on the bright side, she has a desire
to live the word of wisdom and progress in the gospel!

This week we also had zone conference!! Yay! President Anderson talked
about our desires as a missionary. Something that was said that I
really loved was, “What you desire on your mission and in your life
will be your desires for eternity.” What do you desire? Elder Neal A.
Maxwell said, “The way we show our desires is by our works.” I’ve been
thinking about what desires I am showing to the Lord, and how I can
better align them with what He has intended them to be. President gave
us a list of things to remember so that we can act on our desires, 1.
Use the doctrine as you teach, 2. Remember always the importance of
prayer, 3. Remember President and Sister Anderson love you, and 4.
Learn the Atonement of Jesus Christ. I think these four steps can
apply to everyone. Perhaps replacing step 3 with Remember your father
and mother love you, or your heavenly parents. Whoever it may be,
remember that there are people who love you.

This week while visiting Brother H… we had him share his
testimony with us. At first he got all nervous and told us he didn’t
know anything. Then he told us that he only had a testimony of us
(which was just as bad as the first thing!), then he actually shared
his testimony with us. Proclaiming that he knows the Book of Mormon is
true, he knows God loves him, and he knows that Jesus Christ is his
Savior. He told us he knew it was true because he’s been studying the
scriptures and he prayed and asked God about it, he knew that God had
answered his prayers through the Spirit. The sweet Spirit that filled
the room was undeniable. The gospel is true!

The new Easter video, Hallelujah, is officially out! At zone
conference we were committed to share the video in our ward councils
this Sunday. So in ward council yesterday, we introduced the
Hallelujah video and mentioned the website. We shared the video and
afterwards the Spirit was overpowering the room. As Sister Brunsdale
and I testified of the resurrection of our Savior, our loved ones, and
ourselves I knew the Holy Ghost was helping the members of the ward
council feel that this fact is indeed true. We invited them all to
share it on social media and with their families. In relief society
the relief society president announced that she wanted the video to be
played in relief society next week. Then after church she sent an
email to all the sisters in the ward with the link to the video and
she invited them all to share it on their social media accounts as
well.

I’m extending this same invitation to you! If you haven’t seen the
video yet, go to followhim.mormon.org and watch it! Then share the
link to your social media accounts! The Lord is really helping His
work progress to all the ends of the earth. This is a wonderful,
wonderful opportunity that we have to share a little message of hope
with others. It also gives you an opportunity to share your testimony
of Christ’s resurrection with others.

I know that Jesus Christ lives. He overcame death and was resurrected.
Because of that we all will be resurrected. I know this is true. The
Book of Mormon teaches this to us. I love Mosiah 16:7-8 which says:

7 And if Christ had not risen from the dead, or have broken the bands
of death that the grave should have no victory, and that death should
have no sting, there could have been no resurrection.

8 But there is a resurrection, therefore the grave hath no victory,
and the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ.

I know this is true. The grave has no victory. I know we will all be
resurrected one day. Don’t forget to use this Easter season to reflect
on this and to help others understand it as well. I hope you all have
an amazing week! I love you to the moon and back!

God bless,
Sister Gomm

"I LOVE BETHLEHEM!!!!"

“I LOVE BETHLEHEM!!!!”

I love to see the Temple – Susquehanna #16

Hello friends and family!!

I don’t have a lot of time or a lot to say this week, it’s been crazy
though! N… made fun of me for always talking about how many of our
appointments always fall through, but it happens every week so I feel
like I need to say it every week!! (; (I loooove you N…!!!)

A miracle that happened this week was at church! We didn’t have anyone
planning on coming to church that we knew of… We had meetings in the
morning and afterwards we walked into the chapel and there was a woman
named R… standing there! Her daughter has been a member for a year,
but R… hasn’t been ready to take the lessons because she wants the
approval of her husband. We went straight over to her and started
talking to her and she told us that her husband has been asking so
many questions ever since their daughter brought them to the
Priesthood Restoration Site. He has also been searching things on
lds.org and he’s been learning a lot from there. They were talking
about it and both of them want to start taking the lessons together!!!
It’s crazy, I know that his heart is being softened by the Lord and
both of them are being prepared to accept the gospel, I am SO excited
to start teaching them!!

We had zone conference yesterday and it was SO good! I just love
talking about the Book of Mormon and the truths it holds!

Today was a special, special day! Sister Johnstone and I went to the
temple today with N…!!! He has been baptized for a year now and
President Anderson gave me permission to go to the temple with them
because Sister Johnstone’s companion when he got baptized is home now.
Wow. The temple is amazing! I love it. We went to the Palmyra temple
and Brother B…, the ward mission leader in Downingtown, was
N…’ escort! It was such a neat experience to be here with N… and
see him make more covenants with Heavenly Father. I’m so so so
grateful for the temple and I love this gospel!

That’s all I have for this week, I love you to the moon and back!

Love,

Sister Gomm (:

Susquehanna or Nicholas Sparks? – Susquehanna #3

Hello!!

What a crazy week it has been! The subject to this email really has
nothing to do with anything, other than the fact that every single day
I feel like I am literally walking through the pages of a Nicholas
Sparks book. Tiny town where everyone knows everyone, and people who
have known each other since they were babies are now married.
Seriously, it’s crazy, I feel like everyone here knew who we were
before we knew them! (In fact, I know they did!) It’s so much fun
though!!

So last Monday we had a zone conference with Elder Kacher (of the
seventy), I don’t remember if I talked about it at all last week, but
it was SO good!! I loved it so much! He talked all about changing your
mindset and what we need to do to help our areas progress and what we
need to improve on to achieve the goals we have set. It was exactly
what we needed to hear! Afterwards Sisters Simmons, Brown and I all
made goals on what we can do to change our mindset of this area; and
we have seen MIRACLES this week because of it!! We had so many members
come to appointments with us last minute and when they got there they
said exactly what was needed for the people we were teaching! We had a
less active member come with us to teach J… and the member invited
J… to read Moroni 10 and she just went on to share her testimony of
how she found out for herself that the Book of Mormon was true by
reading it and praying and asking God if it is true! It was amazing
and everyone could feel the spirit so strongly! We also had an
investigator, M…, come to church and tell us that one time when
she was passing the new church building that’s still being built that
she had a strong feeling that one day she would be going to church
there. She is so sweet, and she’s just searching for the truth! I know
that she will find it here, and I’m so excited to see her progress! (:
We met with a less active member this week, J…, and he is amazing!
He truly has a desire to get his life turned around and he even told
us that he really wants to serve a mission!! We will be helping him
turn to the Lord this week and overcome the trials and temptations
that are coming to him. I’m so excited to see him change his life
around and turn towards the Lord and use the Atonement! He is so
great!! We also met with a family that we’ve been teaching! They have
a son on a mission right now, and we had a member come with us who
connected with them SO well! We decided to reteach them the
Restoration and help them find out what they do know and do believe so
far. The lesson was super great, but I knew that S…, the mom, was
still holding back on us. When we talked about Joseph Smith’s first
vision and Sister Brown finished reciting it, it was silent for at
least 45 seconds afterwards. The spirit was SO strong! I prayed that
S… would open up to us, and suddenly Sister Simmons asked if they
believed that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ appeared to Joseph
Smith. S… opened up and told us all of her concerns. The member
that was with us bore a beautiful testimony of the Book of Mormon and
Joseph Smith and afterwards the spirit was so strong that no one said
anything. I’m so grateful that the spirit was there and S… could
open up to us so we know how to better help her. I’m grateful for the
companionship of the Holy Ghost. I know that it is so essential to
teach by the Spirit because the Spirit is what testifies of truth.
That is how people will know for themselves that what they are being
taught and reading in the Book of Mormon is true. There’s really no
other way to know.

District Meeting at the Susquehanna River.

District Meeting at the Susquehanna River.

I love this gospel and I’m so grateful for it. A talk I was reading a
little while ago and then our Relief Society lesson was on it is:
Ponder the Path of Thy Feet from President Monson in the October 2014
General Conference. One part in particular that I love says,
“We need not walk by the shores of Galilee or among the Judean hills
to walk where Jesus walked. All of us can walk the path He walked
when, with His words ringing in our ears, His Spirit filling our
hearts, and His teachings guiding our lives, we choose to follow Him
as we journey through mortality. His example lights the way. Said He,
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

I love this because it really doesn’t matter if you walk exactly where
Christ walked. He doesn’t intend for us to do that anyway. He wants us
to be examples and to follow His example. Wherever we are in the
world. We don’t need to go to Jerusalem to show Christ that we believe
in Him. We don’t need to be baptized in the Susquehanna river to let
Joseph Smith know that we accept him as the prophet of the
restoration. We need to show them. We show Christ our love for Him by
helping others know of Him. We help others know that the Book of
Mormon is true by inviting them to read it. We testify of truth by
living it. And when we do that Heavenly Father blesses us. He loves us
and wants to bless us! We just have to do what He has commanded of us.
I love this gospel and I love helping others know about it! I love you
all and I hope that you have an amazing week and that you invite
others to come closer to Christ, and you lead by example!

I love you to the moon and back!

Love,
Sister Sammy Gomm (:

Book of Mormon Challenge – Downingtown #10

Hola friends and family! So. This week consisted of our three favorite things. Finding, finding, and more finding! We still aren’t really getting anywhere with it. But we know there’s people out there who are ready for the gospel, we just need to find them!!

We invited our ward and the West Chester Ward to do the Book of Mormon challenge. For the Book of Mormon challenge you are to follow the instructions below and prayerfully decide on who to give your Book of Mormon to and deliver your copy to them within TEN DAYS. Here’s what you need to do:

Book of Mormon Challenge

First page–write your testimony
Bottom of page–write: Turn to page 59, (Spanish 70) and www.mormon.org

At the top of page 59 (Spanish 70)–write: Read 2 Nephi 2:27
Underline the scripture

At the top of page 531 (Spanish 642)–write: Read Moroni 10:32-33
Underline the scripture
Bottom of page–write: Go to the beginning and read this Book!

My commitment to all of you is to do this; write your testimony in the front cover of a copy of the Book of Mormon, follow the instructions and then pray about who you should give the Book to. Then give it to them within the next ten days! I know that by doing this Heavenly Father will bless you and that by sharing your testimony with others you can strengthen your own testimony and it will bring you closer to Christ. I know each of you will be able to do this(; even in good old Provo Utah, there are people out there waiting to hear about the restored gospel!

We already gave away a copy of the Book of Mormon this way, and we are teaching her the Restoration on Saturday! It’s a great way to help people know what they can read rather than mindlessly wandering through the Book. Plus it’s always great to have a friend’s testimony written in the cover of a very special Book! (:

On Thursday we had zone training, which was so good, as always!
On Saturday our Ward had a talent show. There are some very talented people here, and some people who just know how to make us all laugh(: it was great.

356400_11198000_p_348

We’ve talked to TONS of people this past week. We have Because He Lives pass along cards that we’re supposed to keep track of how many we hand out as part of the initiative, and Sister Ipson and I were given a lot because pretty much all we do is go finding and we still ran out three times in the past two weeks! But luckily our district leader and our zone leaders AND the Elders in our ward have come to the rescue every time and given us more to hand out! But as of right now our mission only has however many each of us missionaries have. They’ve ordered tons more, but they haven’t come in yet! So hopefully we will get those soon, otherwise we will be out for good!

This week we also had C… and L… and two other people say they were coming to church on Sunday, and none of them did! So that was really sad, but we still have high hopes for this upcoming week!

Also, our appointments with C… and L… this week all fell through. Super lame!
On a good note, yesterday the Elder’s investigator, E…, got baptized!! It was so great to see him get baptized and share his special day. I can’t wait for this upcoming Sunday when he is confirmed! (:
